If there’s one man who has been repeatedly linked with a move to Manchester United in the past few weeks, it’s Real Madrid’s Raphaël Varane.

The defender has just over a year left on his current deal and his contract situation remains unresolved.

Without an extension, Los Blancos will be ‘obliged to sell’ the 28-year-old in the summer to ‘make cash’. That’s what AS are reporting today.

It’s claimed the centre-back has an idea to not renew his contract and is eager to explore the offers he will receive.

Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United and Chelsea are three clubs who have reportedly been chasing the France international for a while. The La Liga side could use him as part of the deal to sign Kylian Mbappé.

Real Madrid ‘expect to obtain around €80m’ from the World Cup winner’s sale in the summer, even though his current market value [as per Transfermarkt] is €70m.

With Real Madrid ‘obliged to sell’ the player [without a renewal], AS stress Varane will have the ‘last word’ on where he will play next season.

In the event he decides to leave the Spanish club, Real Madrid plan to use the funds from Varane’s sale to sign either Mbappé or Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland.

Whether Manchester United will still as keen after renewing Eric Bailly’s contract remains to be seen.
