Manchester United are ‘ready to return’ with a new €100m bid for Ajax star Antony after an initial €70m offer was rejected by the Dutch giants.
That’s according to Foot Mercato, who say the Red Devils ‘intend to make another bid’ for the forward.
They report that this new offensive ‘could be accepted’ by Ajax, who are already eyeing up replacements for the Brazilian should he depart.
Earlier today, we covered a report that stated Antony had skipped Ajax training after an €85m offer from Manchester United was rejected by Ajax.
His absence was seen as a hint of an impending transfer by some, with United turning their attention back to the player this week following defeats to Brighton and Brentford.
FM state that they have ‘activated the panic buy option’ in their window and that’s seen them push to sign Antony after seemingly wrapping up a move for Real Madrid’s Casemiro.
Antony has now been made the ‘top priority’ among the United hierarchy and the player is wanted by Erik ten Hag, who knows him well from their time together at Ajax.
Antony similarly wants the move to England.
An initial offer of €70m (€60m plus €10m in bonuses) was rejected, according to Foot Mercato, but Manchester United are ‘ready to return to the charge’ with an offer of €100m bonuses included.
That sum is close to the price Ajax have set for a sale, having valued Antony at €100m at the end of July.
Indeed, the Dutch side are already eyeing up replacements such as Hakim Ziyech and Justin Kluivert, further hinting they are open to accepting a new offer from United.
That will need to arrive first but the signals are all pointing to the fact that it will sooner rather than later.
