Promoted from Ligue 2 in the summer, RC Lens are back in Ligue 1 where most feel a club of their size belongs, and they’ve started their return to the elite strongly.
Currently 10th in the table just over midway through the campaign, the club have a great mixture of young talent and experienced players to provide stability, among which is centre-back Facundo Medina.
The 21-year-old, who arrived from Club Atlético Talleres in the summer for just over €3m, has impressed during the first half of the season before a few knee problems occurred, to the extent where Manchester United came knocking.
According to La Voix du Nord, the Red Devils, who can always do with defensive reinforcements it seems, have ‘very seriously come to get news’ about the Argentina international’s situation.
Capped for the first time by Lionel Scaloni last October, Medina has caught the attention of a few English clubs, but it’s Manchester United who provide the most prestigious destination.
That being said, someone close to the whole affair has told La Voix du Nord that the chances of the centre-back leaving Lens in January are ‘slim’
The newspaper point out that’s not a total denial of a potential winter transfer, before adding sources have told them Manchester United could ‘rapidly and officially make a first offer of €12m’ for the player with a ‘potential six month loan back to Lens’ until the end of the season.
In the end, the decision to let Medina leave or not will come down to the offers arriving on RC Lens’ desk, and it’s now up to Ed Woodward and co. to make their first move.
