AC Milan have got themselves into a financial mess. That recently brought them a European ban and big fine which are subject to an appeal.
Regardless of the outcome of that, they need to balance the books and that involves selling players.
Saturday’s edition of La Repubblica reports the Rossoneri are looking to raise €50m before the end of the current transfer window, through player sales. That’s profit, so if they sign players then they’ll have to raise more.
Leonardo Bonucci is the first man named and it’s claimed Manchester United would like to sign him and that they’re preparing a €32m offer. This isn’t anything especially new, because similar has been reported several times previously this summer. Jose Mourinho has been said to be behind the interest, feeling the added experience and leadership would help his side.
Whilst €32m wouldn’t provide a ‘capital gain’ on what was paid to Juventus for the defender, it would allow Milan to rid themselves of Bonucci’s €14m a year salary, which is considered important.
Milan are said to be looking for possible replacements.
Manchester United are currently being linked with a string of defenders all around Europe and this one seems to be at the same stage as others, interest but nothing especially concrete right now.
There are less than 26 days of the window left for English clubs, so Jose Mourinho will almost certainly be pushing for things to move more quickly than they have been.
As far as La Repubblica are concerned, Milan need this cash injection… so it’s over to United now.
