Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek will ‘know where he stands’ under Ralf Rangnick this week.
That’s according to Voetbal International, who say the absence of Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes for United could give him his chance.
They explain that Rangnick will be without both midfielders for their final game of 2021 with Pogba still out injured and Fernandes suspended after picking up a fifth yellow against Newcastle.
That makes things ‘interesting’ for Van de Beek, who is yet to start a single game for Manchester United in the Premier League this season.
His lack of minutes have continued under Rangnick, although the German did start him in the Champions League game against Young Boys.
With a lack of options for the clash with Burnley, this game should be his chance to change the record, particularly as Van de Beek ‘seems better suited’ to a role as one of the two attacking midfielders in Rangnick’s 4-2-2-2 system.
Thus, he will ‘know where he stands’ under the Manchester United boss when the teamsheet for the Clarets is announced.
If he is not drafted into the team in the absence of Pogba and Fernandes, ‘it is a clear signal’ that he is not a part of Rangnick or United’s plans moving forwards.
