It’s now been a couple of years since Boca Juniors started being linked to Edinson Cavani.

The Argentine side first tried to sign the striker when he left Paris Saint Germain, and were unsuccessful as he agreed a deal with Manchester United. Then last summer, when his contract with the Red Devils was about to expire, there was a new attempt, but he decided to stay at Old Trafford.

Even though those rumours continued and Cavani could become a free agent in a few months, it seems Boca Juniors haven’t kept that same will to sign him.

An update from Mundo Boca journalist Luis Fregossi on Twitter claims that the Buenos Aires side are still to get in touch with the striker for a move next year. He claims that the 34-year-old actually has two other options.

“In Mundo Boca Radio, a few days ago, I told you that Cavani was thinking of playing again in South America. Corinthians moved quickly and handed him an offer. The forward asked for a contract for 3 seasons. On the Boca side, there was no communication with Edinson,” says Fregossi.

“Neither Cavani contacted Riquelme nor did Roman call Edinson. For now the roads lead to Cavani arranging with Barcelona for one season or reaching Corinthians if they make you a good offer for 3 seasons. For now Boca and Cavani will not cross paths.”

Reports from Spain and Brazil have indeed been reporting the same, with Barcelona wanting the player until 2023 and Corinthians wondering if it’s worth putting a three-year deal on the table.
