Manchester United have offered a one-year contract extension to Juan Mata, according to Catalan newspaper Sport.
The 33-year-old’s current deal with the Red Devils runs down at the end of this month and had made only 10 starts across all competitions last season.
In the event the Spaniard signs an extension, he will have to take a pay cut.
Although the former Chelsea star hasn’t had a major role to play under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s orders, the club have an intention of retaining the attacker, which is why they have offer him a new deal.
The Premier League side not only have plans to retain the playmaker until 2022, but also beyond that, as they have a desire to include him as a part of the management.
Mata ‘fits perfectly’ as ‘future head of sports management’, and that’s because those at United are of the belief the player ‘knows perfectly’ the ‘philosophy, the work dynamics and the idiosyncrasies of Manchester United’.
Considering the ‘future’ role at Old Trafford, Mata is ‘seriously evaluating’ the proposal made by the English club.
