Football in Europe isn’t over. Some countries are still finishing their seasons, and of course the big European finals are still to come.
After that there’s a round of international games and then the finals of the UEFA Nations League.
Players are already joining up with their national teams, but Victor Lindelof won’t be among them. The Swedish FA report the Manchester United player has withdrawn from international duty due to a groin injury.
Coming off towards the end of his club’s match against Huddersfield Town on May 5th, Lindelof hasn’t recovered in time so is set to miss the matches against Malta and Spain.
Lindelof travelled to Sweden to be assed by the country’s medical team, and a statement has been released by Anders Valentin, the national team doctor: “Victor has an injury in the groin which he’s had problems with for a long time. The injury made him have to step off in the second-last match with the club team and miss the last match. After examining Victor, it is unfortunately clear that he cannot participate in the next meeting since the injury continues to keep him away from games.”
The Manchester United player has said: “All players want to play the big matches and represent their country. My focus is to be free of damage as soon as possible. I wish the guys and Janne great luck in the matches and look forward to being involved and helping the team in qualifying this autumn.”
