Memphis Depay had big hopes attached to him before he arrived at Manchester United, but hasn’t exactly lived up to the expectations.
The Dutchman has managed just 20 minutes of league football this season, and it’s quite clear he doesn’t feature in Jose Mourinho’s plans right now.
The 22-year-old has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford, with Marseille being one of the clubs reportedly interested in signing him.
However, according to L’Equipe journalist Mathieu Grégoire (via Le 10 Sport), Depay isn’t interested in signing for Marseille, as he prefers playing for a Premier League club.
He said: “Memphis Depay will prefer to play in any Premier League club rather than Marseille. Because it is the most competitive league, he has one foot in it already and certainly will not get out.
“And especially financially, we can’t account for the wages of these guys. Let’s stop fantasising about England.”
Depay would certainly be forced to consider his future at Manchester United if his situation doesn’t improve soon.
Unless things change rather dramatically, and quite quickly, a January exit looks like the best scenario for the player.
