Last week, we covered claims made in India that the Glazer family, Manchester United’s majority owners, have shown interest in buying a new cricket franchise in the Indian Premier League [IPL].

The Board of Control for Cricket in India [BCCI] have confirmed they plan to add two more teams for the new season starting in 2022.

It was explained the Red Devils’ owners had picked up the Invitation to Tender [ITT] to own and operate a team in the IPL.

These claims are further backed up by ANI, who explain the Old Trafford club’s owners ‘arrive’ in the Middle East as the BCCI are set to unveil the two new teams and owners later today.

It’s claimed the Glazer family are in the UAE to ‘ensure they get to own’ a team in the ‘cash-rich’ T20 cricket league. A source close to the developments has confirmed their presence to ANI.

“Yes, they are here. We will know by afternoon on which two cities have teams and who are the owners,” a source said.

ANI also stress the Glazer family showing interest to buy a new team in the IPL may be one of the reasons the BCCI decided to extend the date to purchase the ITT.
