Manchester United continue to scout Benfica religiously. If the Portuguese club are playing, in any competition against any opposition, then it’s a good bet an official from Old Trafford will be there.

The Premier League club watch a lot of matches in Portugal generally, probably more than any other European club, but it’s Benfica who have been the main target in recent years.

Scouting the club got another boost when Jose Mourinho took over, and Victor Lindelof arriving from Lisbon shows there’s some transfer intention in the trips.

On Saturday, report Record, Manchester United had someone watch Benfica against Tondela. It was an exciting match, but not one which Benfica ended well, losing 3-2 in a shock result.

Andrija Zivkovic, linked with a move to the Red Devils recently, was the best performer on show for Benfica, but couldn’t stop his side from losing.

On Sunday evening, Manchester United also had someone in attendance to watch AA Gent against Standard Liege, according to Belgian newspaper HLN.
