It’s no secret that Manchester United have been keeping their eyes all over Portugal recently. Especially on Benfica, who have been watched many times this season.
This interest has been taken differently by the local outlets. Yesterday, newspaper Diário de Notícias said the Red Devils officials would be making a trip to Lisbon so they could scout Nélson Semedo.
Manchester United have been linked to the Swedish defender for a while, with the rumours growing stronger in the past few weeks.
That’s why O Jogo says initial contacts have commenced, with Manchester United looking at a January deal. However, A Bola stated on Monday that there’d been no contact, suggesting conflicting information, or maybe that Manchester United have contacted the player’s agent.
Lindelof didn’t have a fantastic performance, especially because his mistake cost the team Napoli’s first goal. That was definitely something that won’t have impressed Manchester United’s scouts.
Semedo is also mentioned by O Jogo, and it’s claimed Manchester United had half an eye on him too. But he couldn’t put in a great performance either and O Jogo weren’t impressed.
Benfica were lucky that Besiktas were thrashed by Dinamo Kiev, so the Portuguese club ended up achieving qualification for the knock-out stage. At least two more CL level games for United to scout, then.
