Earlier on Thursday, we covered a story claiming that Nemanja Matić was one of the player José Mourinho was considering at AS Roma.
The two have a great relationship after their work together at both Manchester United and Chelsea, and it was said the Serbian would be more than happy to follow him to Rome.
Gazzetta dello Sport were the ones reporting this, but their counterparts Corriere dello Sport take it one step further in their newspaper.
For them, Matić is Mourinho’s ‘priority’ to reinforce AS Roma’s midfield next season, and his reduced price could be ideal for the club’s budget.
Believed to be ‘under €10m’, the player would bring experience both on and off the pitch, where he could help the emerging Ebrima Darboe to fulfil his potential.
It’s said that while Manchester United blocked a reunion between the two at Tottenham with the new contract keeping the midfielder at the club until 2023, the ‘conditions have changed’ and there would be ‘no problem’ in him being sold.
Certainly more promising than Gazzetta’s report, and a strong suggestion this could be Matić’s final season at Old Trafford if the right offer comes along.
