Juan Mata could be set for an emotional return to former club Valencia with his time at Manchester United coming to an end.
That’s according to Fichajes, who say a return to the Spanish side could be on the cards for the midfielder.
Reports yesterday indicated that Mata is one of several Manchester United players who are facing their final months at the club.
New manager Ralf Rangnick has reportedly decided to release the 33-year-old, whose contract expires in June 2022 anyway, which leaves him free to negotiate with clubs come January.
One of those would be Valencia, where he played between 2006 and 2011, establishing himself as a key player and ‘beloved’ by the club’s fanbase.
He now has the opportunity to return to enjoy the final stretch of his career at the Mestalla and reportedly sees the move with ‘good eyes’.
The final decision will rest with Valencia boss Jose Bordalas, though. He knows the club want to bring Mata in when he leaves Manchester United, but it is he who will make the ‘final decision’.
Should they go through with a move, it would undoubtedly be one of the most important moves for them in the summer window.
