Arriving at Old Trafford on loan from Shenghai Shenhua, Odion Ighalo quickly dismissed any reservations people might have had regarding his fit in Manchester United’s squad by scoring early and doing well when called upon.
So much so, in fact, that there have been a number of stories suggesting the Nigeria international could sign for the club permanently going forward.
However, one report went against the tide, claiming a huge contract extension was waiting for him in China and Ighalo wouldn’t be continuing with the Premier League club.
Acting quickly, Foot Mercato got in touch with the player’s representative, Ladi Salami, who didn’t waste time to refute the claims.
He told the French website: “Firstly, he feels very good in Manchester with whom he’s close to a wage agreement. Talks with the Chinese are ongoing and going well. Secondly, regarding the new rules put in place there, it’s nearly impossible to offer such amounts”.
As things stand, Ighalo is supposed to go back to his club come the end of the season, having scored four goals in eight appearances for Manchester United, as well as tallying an assist in the Europa League.
His contract with Shanghai Shenhua is set to expire in 2021 after signing for them from CC Yatai back in February 2019.
