Flamengo may not have officially given up on the permanent signing of Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira yet, but it’s becoming clear there isn’t a favourable scenario for him to stay at the club.
On Tuesday, it was once again reported that the Rio de Janeiro side are giving up on the €10m deal they have with the Red Devils, as his recent form shows the investment is not worth it.
So as manager Paulo Sousa announced the line-up for the Copa Libertadores clash against Universidad Católica, many people were caught by surprise with Andreas starting.
One of them was journalist Renato Maurício Prado, who wrote on Twitter: “Betting on Andreas Pereira, on the day the news comes out that Flamengo has given up on his purchase, is also very weird.”
The rejection to Andreas was also noticed by TNT Sports, who wrote a story with a headline saying ‘Andreas Pereira starts and leaves Flamengo fans angry,’ and chose several tweets which show how unhappy they are with the player.
Pereira has a contract with Manchester United running until June 2023, and given his situation in Brazil has turned sour it’s expected he’ll be back at Old Trafford soon.
