With Edinson Cavani likely to leave Manchester United at the end of the season on a free transfer, Erik ten Hag will be needing a new signing in the striker position this summer.
One of the names that continues to be linked with the Red Devils is Victor Osimhen, who has developed into a feared goalscorer in Serie A at Napoli.
The Nigeria international is touted to be the centre of attention of a number of clubs, including Manchester United, but Aurelio De Laurentiis isn’t going to let him leave for cheap either.
The general consensus is that a figure of at least €100m will need to be spent to convince the Napoli owner to give up his star striker, money the Old Trafford side will need to find without Champions League football next season.
They do have the advantage that the Nigeria international’s family are long time Manchester United fans, so that might work in their favour when discussing personal terms, although they still need to convince De Laurentiis.
That could be around the corner, mind, if Corriere del Mezzogiorno are to be believed, with it said in their Wednesday edition that ‘the intermediaries are working on the English market, with Arsenal and Manchester United likely to come forward with a proposal worth at least €100m’.
This doesn’t really fit with previous reports that a first offer had already been made in an alleged secret meeting between Roberto Calenda, Osimhen’s Italian agent, and De Laurentiis last week, although it all depends on the formality.
It could be that the representative simply told the Napoli owner that Manchester United would be prepared to put the money forward, while Corriere del Mezzogiorno are talking about the official bid, meaning the one that really counts.
