Slowly but surely making his way into Flamengo’s first-team towards the end of last year, Lucas Paquetá is now one of the Brazilian side’s stars, missing just four games this season.
The attacking midfielder, who has scored six goals and picked up four assists in 28 appearances so far, is also attracting a lot of interest from around Europe.
We’ve already covered stories involving Liverpool and Manchester City concerning the 21-year-old, but Le10 Sport in France believe Manchester United are also joining the mix.
This comes after Paris Saint-Germain were said to have ‘very concrete interest’ in Paquetá, but José Mourinho’s side are now ready to provide some competition in what could end up being a January tussle.
The fact there’s nothing about this, at least so far, in Brazil leads us to believe this could be someone using Manchester United to make things sound more exciting than they currently are.
That, and the fact Le10 Sport can be very hit and miss.
The Red Devils have been used many times in the past to drum up interest or get players new contracts, and with reports that Flamengo are trying to increase their starlet’s release clause from €50m to €80m, there are few better clubs to use than José Mourinho’s side.
We’ll keep an eye on it, but we’re not going to start holding our breath just yet.
