If you sat down and really took the time to look at all the transfer rumours that are published on a daily basis, you’d notice that we ignore a lot of them.

It’s not that we aren’t doing our job properly, it’s just that there’s only so many hours in a day and, to be honest, a lot of the stories are either throwaway mentions of clubs or just plain ridiculous.

That being said, sometimes, we’ll cover one of these throwaway mentions just because it’s either the first time a club is mentioned, or it’s the resurgence of something old we thought was long buried, and that’s what’s happened in Il Messaggero with Cengiz Ünder and Manchester United.

Even before he signed for Roma, the 21 year old Turkey international was linked with Manchester City, and since then, that interest hasn’t faded, since joined by Arsenal, but the Red Devils, as far as we know, haven’t been seriously mentioned alongside his name for over a year.

However, Il Messaggero now believe José Mourinho’s side are one of the many around Europe keeping an eye on his development in Italy, especially since he is in the midst of a potential contract renewal at his club.

There’s no guarantee he’ll accept it, as the youngster hinted a while back he would definitely finish the season at Roma, but then he would see what was on the table.

We’ve covered various stories about this renewal in the past, with Roma wanting to insert a release clause they can point at when clubs come knocking, therefore avoiding a repeat of Mohamed Salah’s ‘undervalue’ sale a couple of summers ago.

Manchester United fans, we wouldn’t get too excited just yet, but you can be sure we’ll be keeping an eye out for any updates on this in the near future.

A January transfer seems nigh on impossible, but next summer, with the Red Devils needing someone effective down the right, Ünder could become someone Mourinho looks at.

The exciting youngster has three goals and five assists so far this season, playing mainly from the right, an area of Manchester United’s squad which could do with some improvement.
