‘The new Chicharito of Manchester United’. That’s something we found when taking a look at the Mexican press on Thursday.
The reason is José Juan Macias, a 20-year-old striker who plays for León and is being linked to the Red Devils.
The interest gets a very discreet mention. It’s Marca who brings a story saying the player is a target for Koln, who have been watching him feature for Mexico’s youth ranks.
Only then Manchester United are named. Marca says the player has been watched both by the Red Devils and Real Bétis.
That’s all the information they bring. But since Manchester United would obviously attract much more attention than Koln, it’s the Old Trafford side who are getting some stories in the Mexican media.
Macías belongs to León, but has been on a loan spell at Chivas Guadalajara, where he has six goals and one assist in eight appearances so far. He’s also been impressing for Mexico’s U21 side, which is where the officials from Koln have been watching him.
