Mesut Ozil to Fenerbahce rumours are never going to die in Turkey, especially given his contract situation at Arsenal.
The German playmaker, who’ll be out of contract in the summer, and in recent weeks he’s been linked with a move to Barcelona and Manchester United. Sabah report Fenerbahce are also following his situation, but Ozil has rejected the chance to join Turkish giants.
Sabah claim Fenerbahce officials have asked the Arsenal star if he wants to join the club next season, but Ozil has informed them a move to Manchester United looks more likely: “Thanks for your offer but I really want to stay in the Premier League. Manchester United have a huge offer for me, I’ll probably be transferred there.”
This is a very Turkish thing, quoting what someone has supposedly said in private. At Sport Witness we’d term it more as paraphrasing.
Sabah say Fenerbahce have been left disappointed with Ozil’s answer, but they understand his desire to remain in England, and the chance to play for Manchester United.
Ozil was a key player under Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid, and the chance to play under his former manager could prove tempting for the Arsenal star.
With Henrikh Mkhitaryan struggling to live up to expectations in recent weeks, Ozil could be an option for Mourinho next summer, and a chance for the manager to get one over old rival Arsene Wenger.
