Things didn’t really turn go well for Italian defender Matteo Darmian at the start of the season under Jose Mourinho.

However, Antonio Valencia’s injury allowed Darmian to regain his place in the starting, added to Mourinho falling out with Luke Shaw. The Italian defender was again left of the squad against West Ham in the quarter finals of the Capital One Cup, with Mourinho playing Shaw and Valencia ahead of him.

Darmian has been linked with a move back to Italy several times this season, with Inter and Juventus reportedly interested in signing him. Recent injuries to Dani Alves and Leonardo Bonucci means Juventus are looking for a defender in the transfer market, and Darmian is being mentioned again.

According to Calciomercato, Juventus will have to eventually replace Dani Alves and Patrice Evra, and the ‘hottest replacements’ targeted are Matteo Darmian and Mattia De Sciglio.

There are several other names being mentioned too, and Calciomercato don’t seem to be sure of it themselves.

Things could be a bit more clear in the upcoming games, if Darmian is pushed out between now and January then a move again looks very possible indeed.

As for Darmian, well if the Italian press are to be believed, he’s keen on a return to Italy if Mourinho has lost faith. Calciomercato are one of a number of Italian media outlets to claim Darmian agreed a return to Italy with Inter Milan, pending Mourinho’s decision on a transfer.
