Last July, Dayot Upamecano signed a new contract at RB Leipzig that includes a €42m release clause valid from the summer of 2021.

For this reason, the suitors continue to increase and according to AS, Bayern Munich have joined the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester United in the transfer chase.

It’s claimed the defender has been the ‘long-standing desire’ of the Red Devils and ‘everything indicates’ he is likely to leave Leipzig after this campaign.

Bayern chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge confirmed his side’s interest in the centre-back this week, considering the treble winners are set to be without David Alba and Jérôme Boateng next season.

‘Open war’ for Upamecano states the newspaper, and they then discuss Real Madrid and Manchester United efforts to sign the 22-year-old.

Los Blancos will have to take into account the possible contract extension of Sergio Ramos and Alaba’s potential summer arrival on a free transfer, before moving for the Frenchman.

Manchester United are mentioned as a ‘great bidder’ with long standing interest in the Leipzig player. As per the report, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are still looking for a new centre-back despite investing heavily on Harry Maguire’s transfer in 2019.

AS are of the belief Upamecano ‘fits perfectly’ for United, most likely to become Maguire’s partner in the heart of their back four.
