For the past week or so, Manchester United have been named as a suitor to sign Real Madrid’s Raphaël Varane this summer.
The defender has a contract expiring in 2022 and with no renewal in sight, clubs from England and across Europe are ready to swoop in for him in the next market.
On Monday, France Football reported Manchester United and Chelsea are ‘ready to fight’ for the centre-back’s signature.
This report came hours after AS explained Thomas Tuchel has asked the Blues to sign the France international.
Tuesday’s edition of AS states the La Liga side are facing difficulties in extending the 27-year-old’s contract.
It’s claimed the World Cup winner isn’t planning to extend ‘if the conditions of his contract do not improve’, when compared with his current deal. Top European clubs have taken a note of Varane’s situation at Santiago Bernabéu.
According to the newspaper, United’s interest in the player is ‘firm and evident’ and Paris Saint-Germain are also after him for months. The former Lens man has an ‘important offer’ on the table from PSG.
Despite the interest from PSG, Varane is in favour of moving to the Premier League, should he decide to not to extend his current deal with Zinedine Zidane’s side.
Real Madrid, for their part, will look to sell Varane, if he decides not to sign a new contract.
Based on the current conditions, Manchester United and other suitors in England will have an advantage in signing Varane in the summer.
