Scoring in each of his last four league games for Manchester United, Anthony Martial’s form couldn’t be ignored, which is why Didier Deschamps called him back up to the France squad for the upcoming international break.
The French forward, who has been in and out of his national team much like he has at Old Trafford, is still seen as a player brimming with talent, but his lack of consistency has always played against him.
Finally finding some recently, there’s hope in Manchester and across the Channel that this is it, and we are finally seeing the best Martial in both blue and red shirts.
However, there’s still some skepticism floating around, most recently voiced by former France international Mickaël Madar, who feels the 22-year-old has just entered last chance saloon.
He told Le Parisien: “I hope he’s finally understood that football doesn’t give you unlimited chances. It’s the third time Deschamps has given him the chance to come back. Many players haven’t had that many. Here, I think it’s his last because before, when he was called up, Deschamps was still trying to find the right balance.
“He only found it during the World Cup, but now, it’s clear for Martial: either he does the right things or he’s gone. Before, I didn’t feel like he was in the right frame of mind or that he was aware that the train doesn’t wait forever in the France team”.
With six goals in 13 appearances for the Manchester United this season, the forward is enjoying his best start of a season for the Red Devils, there’s around 659 million* fans around the world who are hoping it carries on.
