Regardless of their needs elsewhere, Manchester United are being linked with a new striker.
It doesn’t matter that Odion Ighalo’s loan has been extended until January, the media are continuing to push the idea that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants even more firepower at the club, perhaps preparing for when the Nigeria international eventually returns to China.
Either way, players such as Victor Osimhen and Alassane Pléa have been linked, alongside another in Wissam Ben Yedder.
The AS Monaco goalscorer has been a reported target for the Premier League club since his Sevilla days, and Le10 Sport remind their readers how long it’s been going on for.
In an article reporting that RB Leipzig are looking at the France international to compensate for the departure of Timo Werner, they reveal that Manchester United have been ‘exchanging’ with the striker’s entourage ‘for a year’.
They say he is ‘in a good spot’ on the Red Devils’ shortlist, suggesting he would be one of the first players they could turn to should they decide to act on this apparent urge to splash the cash on someone capable of finding the back of the net regularly.
It does also say Ben Yedder would like to play in the Champions League again, and it might be he waits and see where United end up once the season comes to a close.
We’ll see if more comes of this in the next couple of months.
