Manchester United have ‘entered the race’ for River Plate midfielder Enzo Fernandez after scouting him for a fourth time last night.
That’s according to Ole, who say Manchester United had a representative from Argentina at the game and were left more than impressed by his performance.
We covered several reports from Argentina yesterday that made it clear United are keen on Fernandez, who, alongside Julian Alvarez, is one of the rising stars in South American football.
Unlike his teammate, he is yet to secure a move to Europe, but that looks set to change sooner rather than later.
Manchester United are big admirers and a report yesterday stated that they were sending a scout to watch the clash with Fortaleza, the fourth time they’d had the player watched.
Ole pick up on that and explain the scout, who was watching ‘attentively’, was an Argentine who works for United and will have been left impressed by what he saw.
Fernandez scored the decisive goal of the game with an effort from outside of the box, only taking nine minutes to confirm that he is ‘unrivalled’.
Manchester United have now ‘entered the race’ for River’s jewel, although United’s new manager, presumably Erik Ten Hag, would have to ‘give the go-ahead’ for the move to happen first.
That’s because Fernandez will cost €20m, which is the release clause included in the contract he signed in December last year and runs until 2025.
River are more than aware of the interest in the player and have anticipated that the midfielder will be one of the most ‘sought-after’ players in the next transfer market.
That is only becoming more likely as his performances continue to get better, and he impresses in front of the likes of Manchester United.
