On Monday, it was revealed by Gazzetta dello Sport that Manchester United had made an offer of €30m for Kalidou Koulibaly.
The bid was returned to sender by Aurelio De Laurentiis, who doesn’t want to sell off one of his prime assets on the cheap, but it showed that the Red Devils are covering all their bases when it comes to the centre-back position.
Raphaël Varane remains the prime target for Manchester United, but if no deal can be agreed with Real Madrid, the Premier League club might have to fall back on other options.
Koulibaly could be one of those, and Corriere dello Sport back up Gazzetta’s claims on Tuesday, reporting that ‘yes, at the moment his agent, Fali Ramadani, has delivered a €30m offer signed by Manchester United’ for the player.
But, just like the previous claim, ‘De Laurentiis has sent it back with a thank you very much, but it’s not enough’ note attached to it.
Down his end, Koulibaly ‘continues to work and play with his usual nonchalances’, with Luciano Spalletti ‘crossing his fingers’ that his rock stays.
De Laurentiis ‘values him at least at €50m’ and while he isn’t ‘unsellable, he will not be undersold’.
