On Wednesday, Gazzetta dello Sport opened a can of worms when they reported the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool were after Ajax’s Ryan Gravenberch.

One club they didn’t mention when discussing where the young midfield prodigy could end up next summer, however, was Manchester United.

SoccerNews in Holland rectify that, though, by explaining that the player’s ‘rapid development’ could give the 18-year-old ‘something beautiful this summer’.

Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Barcelona are all said to be ‘after Ajax’s talented’ player, with it added the Eredivisie giants ‘could receive about €30m for ‘the new Pogba’”.

While that may sound cheap, it could have something to do with the current financial situation many clubs are facing due to the Covid-19 pandemic, as the website add ‘it is questionable whether they are satisfied with such a redemption payment’.

One aspect that could also play against Manchester United in all this is how Donny van de Beek has fared since swapping Amsterdam for Old Trafford.

SoccerNews don’t say that, but it’s clear that the Dutchman’s struggles under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this season could put off one of his former teammates from making the same move.

We’ll have to wait and see.
