With Anthony Martial currently on loan at Sevilla, Edinson Cavani’s contract running out at the end of the season and Cristiano Ronaldo heading towards the beginning of his forties, Manchester United are going to need some change up front in the near future.
Young yet somewhat experienced names have already been mentioned, like Darwin Nuñez and Victor Osimhen, but there are also some very promising strikers out there who can be moulded at will, like Hugo Ekitike.
The Stade de Reims forward was a target for Newcastle during the January transfer window, but a deal was never fully agreed, meaning the 19-year-old will finish the current campaign in France, but this summer could be very different.
That’s because a number of big clubs, including Manchester United, have scouted the youngster, who has scored 10 goals in 23 appearances in all competitions this season for the Ligue 1 side, as well as picked up four assists.
The report comes from But! Football Club, who explain the Red Devils were joined by the likes of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Milan in keeping an eye on the striker during the game on February 20th against Brest.
Ekitike injured himself in that match, coming off after 16 minutes, but it’s made clear by the website that Manchester United are ‘diligent’ in their interest for Ekitike.
Faced with what is described as a ‘construction site’ this summer, it’s pointed out that the youngster is ‘another track to watch in the event of a revolution during the next summer transfer window’.
Any deal would be ‘estimated around €40m’, which was the price agreed with Newcastle before Ekitike turned them down at the last minute.
It’s a lot of money, but the potential is there for all to see.
