Manchester United defender Eric Bailly is unlikely to be joining Real Betis this summer, despite reports in England stating he was a target.
That’s according to El Desmarque, who say the financial aspect of any deal effectively rules the Spanish side out of the running for the Ivorian.
Bailly will be in the final year of his contract at Old Trafford come the summer, with no new deal in sight, is expected to leave as a result.
He had been linked with a move to Betis in the English press, with them looking for a replacement for Aissa Mandi, who is looking likely to leave the club.
El Desmarque dispute that, though, and say that it would be ‘complicated’ for Betis to sign Bailly this summer.
They explain that if any player is to arrive at the club this summer they it will be someone on a free or on loan with ‘certain packaging’.
With one year left on his contract with Manchester United, that is unlikely to be Bailly, with it dubious that they would simply cancel his contract and let him go.
That rules out Betis, who it must be remembered didn’t have €5m to sign Sokratis in January and won’t have that much more money in the next transfer window, even if they qualify for Europe.
Even in that eventuality, it ‘seems difficult’ for them to get Bailly out of Manchester United, and even if he signed a new deal there and then they decided to let him go, he would have ‘strong economic offers’.
The only chance is that his future continues to be uncertain until the summer, but those in charge at Betis have made it clear already that this year will be one of ‘little change’, which practically rules out signing Bailly.
