Seemingly now settled with his defence when everyone is fit, José Mourinho doesn’t appear to have a lot of faith in Matteo Darmian, preferring to to use Antonio Valencia at right-back, and, more recently, Blind at left-back.

The Italian, who was brought to Old Trafford by Louis van Gaal, has only made 15 appearances in all competitions this season, and rumours of a move back to Italy have circulated for a while now.

Inter Milan have been linked the most with Darmian, and despite disappearing for a while, a move to the San Siro is once again being touted by the Italian media.

According to Corriere dello Sport, the Serie A side are looking to improve their defence in the summer, and Matteo Darmian’s situation at Old Trafford could certainly make things easier for them as they continue to track the 27-year-old.

However, with Darmian in his squad, he would certainly be able to field a strong defensive back four in his preferred 4231 formation.

Whether the Italian full-back would want a return to his home country, leaving one of the biggest clubs in the world, one slowly being reinvigorated by José Mourinho, is a different matter altogether, though.
