A star at Torino before his move to Manchester United, Matteo Darmian will return to Italy if the local media have anything to do with it.
Since being frozen out by José Mourinho at the beginning of the season, the 27-year-old has been constantly, and by that we mean basically ‘daily’, linked with a move to Inter Milan.
Over the past week, Inter have been reported as ‘confident’ in getting the deal done after ‘new contacts’ were made, with an ‘agreement in principle’ already in place…
You get the gist.
Well, according to Il Mattino, another club might come and stick their noses in Inter Milan’s plans with a move of their own for Matteo Darmian, and that’s Napoli.
The Naples-based newspaper claim on Thursday Maurizio Sarri is looking for a full-back capable of playing both on the right and on the left of the defence, and the Manchester United defender is top of the list.
They say Napoli were already following him in the summer, but there are others in the list, like Inter Milan’s Alessio D’Ambrosio, who would be likely to leave if Inter get Darmian.
You see where this is going…
Basically, Darmian is a wanted man in Italy, and we could see the list of teams interested in his services grow exponentially over the coming weeks, especially if Antonio Valencia slots straight back into the team once he returns from injury.
