By now, you should all know Manchester United cult hero Anderson has retired from football at the age of 31. The announcement was made by Adana Demirspor’s president Murat Sancak last week, who said the midfielder would have another role at the club.

The retirement is still to be made official by the player himself, and Brazilian outlet UOL brings a good story today about why it’s happening.

They first say Anderson has indeed made a final decision about quitting, but is yet to accept the new job at Adana.

UOL reports that Anderson has been struggling with fitness issues, something which has troubled him since his Manchester United days, and has been left out of the list of foreigners who could play for the club in the league’s second division this season.

The midfielder had been having a ‘sequence of injuries’ and finding it hard to get into shape. That’s why he’s only played for 45 minutes this season.

It’s claimed he and Adana are discussing the possibility of a farewell match, which would include some of his former teammates.

The Brazilian has played for Grêmio, Porto, Manchester United, Fiorentina, Internacional, Coritiba and Adana. Playing for the Red Devils, he won four Premier League medals and one Champions League title.
