Manchester United continue to follow Portuguese football almost obsessively. For years the Premier League club have had scouts attend top Portuguese matches, looking for the latest talents, and it’s only increased under Jose Mourinho.

The manager has upped Manchester United’s scouting in all regards and it’s nowhere clearer than in Portugal. With officials at not only every big match, but many of the smaller ones too, there’s never been so much concentration from the club on potential recruitment from the country.

Mourinho hasn’t done this at his previous clubs, so it’s something unique to Manchester United.

Portuguese newspaper O Jogo report the club had an official at Benfica’s Saturday match against Estoril.

The scout will have witnessed some drama as Salvio scored a crucial goal in injury time to give Benfica all three points and keep their title dream alive.

Salvio was one of the better performers on show, but for O Jogo the Man of the Match was flexible attacker Andrija Zivkovic, who has been repeatedly linked with Arsenal.

There’s no mention from O Jogo as to who Manchester United have their eye on. Werder Bremen and Borussia Monchengladbach also had officials at the match.
