Struggling for time at Manchester United, there was a feeling Tahith Chong needed a loan somewhere to mature and get some first-team minutes away from the Old Trafford pressure before getting a real shot at Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad.
Rather early on in what became a very long transfer window, it was decided that Werder Bremen in Germany would be the club for him to achieve this, and a temporary deal was organised for the 21-year-old.
While he has played, it hasn’t be the success many felt it could be, and FussballTransfers in Germany are now reporting there is the distinct possibility the young Dutchman could return to Manchester during the January window.
The website are reporting that both Werder Bremen and United ‘had expected more’ from the loan, and while the Bundesliga side ‘want to give’ Chong more time, ‘the situation is a little more critical’ in England.
Some at the Premier League side are ‘dissatisfied with Chong’s development’ in Germany, and the club ‘don’t see a stay beyond the winter as carved in stone’.
That’s an issue, as the former Feyenoord youngster is still seen as a good prospect by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and co, and so this is something to certainly keep an eye on going forward.
Since joining Werder Bremen, Chong has made 11 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal, in the DFB-Pokal.
