Saved from football’s no man’s land by Marseille last season, Lassana Diarra showed he is nowhere near ready for the comfy paycheque that could bring his career to a close, and impressed so much he was called up to Didier Deschamps’ squad for the Euros.
Unfortunately injured before the tournament started, the 31-year-old was replaced by Morgan Schneiderlin; a player he may be joining soon, if beIN Sports and FootMercato in France are to be believed.
The latter of the two published an article on their website on Friday afternoon claiming Manchester United had ‘gone up a gear’ in their attempts to sign the defensive midfielder, overtaking Chelsea and Inter Milan in the race to sign him.
The Premier League club have, according to FootMercato’s information, apparently contacted the player again and let him know they want to bring him to Old Trafford for next season, which he likes the idea of.
Lassana Diarra is said to be prioritising a return to the Premier League, where he previously played with Portsmouth, Arsenal and Chelsea, and has even rejected an offer from Spartak Moscow.
beIN Sports, relayed by GFFN, go one step further and claim all three clubs have offered him a deal.
There’s clearly been a leak from somewhere here, and it wouldn’t be surprising if all this interest was true.
The defensive midfielder apparently thought he would be able to leave on a free this summer, something Marseille have made clear wouldn’t happen as he has three years left on his current contract.
Despite this, his chances of staying at Marseille remain slim as any offer deemed good enough will be probably immediately accepted by the club, such is their need for money at this present time.
The player was present in Marseille on Friday as his club met for the first time to prepare next season.
