Since the Benfica defender Ruben Dias has been linked to the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United, the Portuguese club seems very worried in not feeding any other rumours about the player’s departure.
This story started in early March, when local papers claimed that both the Gunners and the Red Devils had sent scouts to watch the 20-year-old in action.
Then newspaper Record came out claiming that Dias could be for sale next summer, and an amount of €40m would be enough to take him from the Estádio da Luz.
But Benfica didn’t seem happy with that, because one day later, an ‘official source’ from the club told the same newspaper that they had no intention to let the defender go.
Now, they keep their word. According to O Jogo, both Benfica and Dias plan that he stays in Lisbon for at least one more season, where he can consolidate his place in the team and maybe become the captain.
This time, instead of Arsenal and Manchester United, what O Jogo claims is that there are clubs of huge financial power thinking of taking Dias next summer.
But the Eagles aren’t keen on selling, and don’t even believe that someone is going to pay for his €45m release clause. Unless he impresses a lot at the World Cup, or some ‘market madness’ happens.
