This week, interviewed by TVI, Benfica president Luís Felipe Vieira has claimed that he’s rejected approaches for two youngsters from the club in the last summer.
Newspaper Record covers this story today, and according to their own info, one of these attempts was made by Manchester United.
It starts with the outlet revealing who the youngsters were. They say one was central defender Ruben Dias and the other was the midfielder Gedson Fernandes.
Regarding Dias, it would be Lyon who had an offer rejected for him. And chasing Fernandes, there were Manchester United, Roma and Juventus.
Record claims that the three clubs wanted to know the conditions for the 19-year-old, but didn’t take their interest forward when they were told that Benfica would only let him go for €35m.
Now after staying, Fernandes has ended up renewing his contract with the Eagles. He’s now commited to the club until 2023, and has a €120m release clause.
