No sex after midnight, no pizzas, no Wi-Fi.
The list of things Pep Guardiola is alleged to have stopped his players from doing/eating/using since his arrival at Manchester City is already very long, and Kevin De Bruyne has just added another one to the mix.
The attacking midfielder was interviewed by Sport/Foot magazine in his home country this week, and, much to their surprise after having interviewed Romelu Lukaku a few weeks back, they noticed that his house didn’t have a home gym.
However, the player explained that even if he did have one, he wouldn’t be allowed to use it because of his manager’s requests.
He explained: “The club have forbidden us. Pep Guardiola wants us to be as light as possible, as it’s important for the type of football he’s trying to instil. At home, I mostly have things to relax me: a pool, a cinema, a sauna, a jacuzzi.
“Everyone has their way of preparing and mine isn’t through weights. I don’t think it would bring anything to my game. You can try to push me over, I don’t fall over easily. I’m not small, not big, not skinny, not fat… I’m well proportioned.”
While he might not be scoring as much as he did last season, De Bruyne has certainly enjoyed being managed by Pep Guardiola so far and has made it clear he wants to stay at the Etihad for quite some time in the near future, having moved around a lot in the past.
Recently moving into a new house, the player is now settled in the north with his fiancée and his son and he couldn’t be happier with everything the club has done for him so far.
Now, he just wants to give as much as possible back: “Manchester is a cool town and City is a big club. They might not have the same history as the others, but it’s down to us to ensure it ends up with one.”
