There’s no two ways to put it: Barcelona are in a bit of a mess.
Wanting to renew Lionel Messi, the Catalan club don’t have the wage space to do so, as the Argentine is asking for a lot of money, meaning they need to make some room for his demands.
Those in charge went as far as asking some of their other stars to take a wage cut, which didn’t go down well, so they are now looking at selling some assets, with Antoine Griezmann, also the beneficiary of a hefty salary, touted as one of the potential sacrifices, which could benefit Manchester City.
Foot Mercato in France have a report on Friday corroborating that, explaining that Barcelona ‘won’t hold the Frenchman back if an adequate offer arrives’.
The issue, however, is finding a club who could afford him, with few around these days, but Manchester City could be one of those.
The website state that Pep Guardiola has ‘spoken’ with Griezmann himself on the phone, with both men ‘appreciating each other for some time’.
Furthermore, the France international ‘could be a solution’ for the Premier League champions, ‘who are looking for a new attacking element’ following the free transfer of Sergio Agüero to Barcelona.
While their priority would be Harry Kane, the price tag set by Tottenham is said to ‘cool them’ a bit, meaning Griezmann could be a nice alternative for them as he is capable of scoring and creating aplenty.
