Manchester City have joined Paris Saint Germain in the race for Porto midfielder Danilo Pereira, according to A Bola on Friday.
The French side have been heavily linked to the player in the past few days, and now it’s time for City’s ‘diplomatic approach’ to get a mention.
But the intentions of each club are totally different. Whilst PSG want the player to be signed now, as their plan is for him to replace Blaise Matuidi, Manchester City’s idea is to sign him next summer.
A Bola claims that Pep Guardiola wants the 25-year-old to stay at Porto for one more year, and the Portuguese side obviously love that option. They don’t have a man to replace Danilo now, and therefore would favour the Manchester City move.
Porto are demanding €55m for the transfer, and Manchester City would have to work on lining up the deal now.
The player’s release clause is €60m, and in case there isn’t a deal before the end of the transfer market, we wouldn’t be surprised to see this amount raised with a new contract during the season.
Manchester City have good connections with Porto, built over the deal for Fernando, and the Premier League club received much coverage in Portugal at the time for the respectful way they dealt with the deal. This sounds like more of the same.
