Earlier on Monday, The Athletic’s David Ornstein reported that Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland is set to join Manchester City, and the latter are set to announce the deal later this week.
Claims made by Ornstein are now backed up in Germany by Sky Deutschland, who state the deal to take the striker to the Etihad is ‘nearing completion’.
Last week, Manchester City CEO Ferran Soriano informed BVB chief Hans-Joachim Watzke that his side are ready to activate the 21-year-old’s €75m release clause.
The Norway international had earlier informed the leaders of the Bundesliga side about his desire to leave the club after this season. Although he has a deal until 2024, Dortmund’s ‘hands are tied’ because of the buyout clause included in the contract.
Sky provides more details about the specifics of the clause. They state the figure of €75m ‘must be deposited in a trust account’, and this fee needs to be paid in one shot and not in instalments.
With Manchester City informing BVB they are ready to pay Haaland’s clause, the deal should ‘already be officially announced’ during the course of this week. Sky state the ‘last details still have to be finalised’ of this ‘mega transfer’.
There will ‘finally be clarity’ on Haaland’s future this week. This is ‘extremely important’ to the player, who wants to say goodbye to Dortmund’s fans during BVB’s last home game of the season is against Hertha Berlin on May 14th.
