It’s no secret that while Pep Guardiola likes having a strong team at his disposal, he also enjoys giving youth a chance here and there.
He brought a few players through from La Masia at Barcelona, and his eye for talent has never diminished, as shown by his desire to bring Tanguy Kouassi to the Etihad.
The young Paris Saint-Germain defender has been one of the exciting breakthroughs under Thomas Tuchel at the Ligue 1 champions, and has caught the eye of many managers and scouts.
According to Soccer Link in France, Manchester City were one of the clubs showing their interest, going as far as Txiki Begiristain contacting the player’s entourage in January to try and get the youngster to move to England this summer.
However, it seems they got there too late, as RB Leipzig have been keen on him since he was 13, and have done ‘everything’ to try and sign him.
Soccer Link explain that after a lot of wooing, the Germans have finally managed to overtake Paris Saint-Germain in the player’s head, and ‘documents have been signed’ (he still doesn’t have a professional contract) nearly a year ago to bring him in to replace Dayot Upamecano.
It’s stated said documents could come back to haunt him if he doesn’t sign for Leipzig, but it doesn’t seem like this will happen.
Soccer Link are fairly certain that ‘barring a big U-turn’, Kouassi will be a Leipzig player next season, having manage to pip Manchester City to his signature.
