Barcelona look like they’re going to provide some annoyance for Manchester City over the coming months.
Claims of the Blaugrana being keen on signing Eric Garcia, who left them for the Etihad in 2017, have been building over the past few weeks and it would appear there’s something to the story.
Garcia takes up the front page of Monday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo, and it’s made clear how serious Barca’s interest is. With Gerard Pique coming towards the end of his career, and Samuel Umtiti continuing to suffer repeat injury problems, the club know they need a new man for the future.
The Manchester City player has been identified as the main option, and for Barcelona it’s now a case of trying to get him as cheaply as possible.
Meanwhile, the Premier League club are working hard to push a renewal, given Garcia has less than a year left on his contract. City want to keep the Spaniard ‘at all costs’, yet Mundo state he has doubts, being tempted by a return to his former club.
Barca’s plan is to work on getting a cheap deal, and if that isn’t possible, convincing Garcia not to renew, before then signing a pre-contract agreement in January.
At that stage they could offer City a token fee to enable a winter move.
