Benfica’s qualification for the Champions League’s quarter-finals is being seen by the Portuguese media as a big chance for the Eagles to cash in with some big sales.
There are a couple of players who’ve been standing out for the club this season and should now have their market value raised. One of them is striker Darwin Nunez.
Newspaper Correio da Manhã today writes about the 22-year-old’s price going up, and as usual, Manchester City are pointed out as one of the potential destinations for him.
The outlet points out that from Benfica’s entire squad, Nunez is the one who ‘draws more attention’. Besides Pep Guardiola’s side, the likes of Atletico Madrid and Barcelona are said to be interested in him as well.
Knowing about the race for his signing, Benfica have been readjusting the price they’ll ask for him. Following claims in the January transfer window saying he’d cost at least €60m, it’s now claimed by Correio da Manhã that the Eagles will only accept to negotiate the striker’s exit for over €80m.
It’s once again recalled that Darwin is protected by a €150m release clause, so the Eagles have a pretty good margin to negotiate with Manchester City or any other clubs who come for him.
The striker, who has 26 goals this season, scored against important opponents in the Champions League, the likes of Barcelona and Bayern Munich, and was responsible for the winner against Ajax which took Benfica to the quarter-finals.
