İlkay Gündoğan’s deal expires in June and Manchester City are keen to retain their star.
The midfielder has starred for the Citizens in the last three matches, managing four goals and two assists.
After his latest displays, Mundo Deportivo state Manchester City have noticed his importance and can ‘double the offer’ to keep him at the Etihad beyond this seaosn. This won’t be made easy by Barcelona’s side’s efforts to sign him for free.
The La Liga side came close to buying the 32-year-old when he was at Borussia Dortmund in 2015. In fact, he ‘passed’ a ‘secret medical’ in Germany but the deal didn’t take shape. They now want to try to take him in the next window.
Over at Sport, they state the La Liga side are optimistic of getting a deal over the line after they got the ‘verbal OK’ from the player for a three-year deal.
Manchester City aren’t giving up and are pressing again to retain him. They state claims of Guardiola’s side making a renewal offer are true and this new offer includes a longer duration than the one offered [one year extension] earlier.
Despite this, Barcelona believe they can win the battle because of the German and his family sharing a desire to arrive in Spain.
