With no football to comment on, France Football decided this week would be the perfect time to look over the salaries and incomes of players around the world.
They tend to do this every year, and while the top three are very predictable (Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar), what comes after tends to change a bit from year to year.
One of the biggest rises in the world of football, at least financially, over the past year, according to the French magazine, has been that of Raheem Sterling.
They explain he is the ‘sensation’ of this year’s edition, having doubled his wage last year from £150k to £300k/week after renewing his contract with Manchester City, as well as £2m in bonuses for winning the Premier League and qualifying for the Champions League.
Off the pitch, Sterling signed a collaboration with Zion Williamson and put pen to paper with Nike Air Jordan for the next ten years or so for a yearly package of around £9.3m.
Furthermore, the Manchester City forward also has deals with Gillette, H&M and EA Sports.
France Football reckon Sterling earns around €33.8m/year now overall, which is broken down through his €18.5m yearly wages, plus his €2.3m in bonuses, and then €13m of advertising contracts on top of that.
This puts him 8th in the list of best paid footballers in the world, behind Andrés Iniesta by €200k, but ahead of Robert Lewandowski by a comfortable €4.8m.
