After the 2-1 win over Arsenal, Manchester City midfielder Fernando has spoken to ESPN Brasil about the match.

Arsene Wenger’s men squandered a 1-0 lead given to them by Theo Walcott and were helpless in the second half as Manchester City upped the gears.

Fernando recalled the importance of the game due to the Gunners’ good position in the table, and had a few reasons to explain the win: “To play against Arsenal is always very difficult. We knew it would be a six-point match. Because these are two teams who fight on top. So we knew this win would be important. We played well, better in the second half. We were very aggressive. That’s why the result was good.”

Asked about the possibilities of overcoming Chelsea, who are still seven points in front of them in the league, Fernando said: “We know the Premier League is a very difficult league. We know anything can happen. Of course it’s a considerable gap, but we know anything can happen from now on. We must continue our job, winning games and see what happens then”.

In every interview with a Manchester City player, the Brazilian media still ask a lot of questions about Pep Guardiola, as if his arrival is still something new. Fernando didn’t say much about the changes in the team despite being asked to, and only gave compliments to the manager.

“For being the manager he is, for the titles he won in the past, we knew that after he arrived here the demand would be much bigger. That’s why people demand a lot when we have a draw or a loss. We know we have to improve everyday. Pep demands a lot, he’s an excellent manager, tries to take the best from the players. We must continue doing the best, try to win the next games and give the manager some joy.”

The Brazilian midfielder is not one of Guardiola’s favourites, having started only five Premier League games this season. Working under Manuel Pellegrini last season, he started 17.
