Manchester City and Benfica are on the verge of signing a defender, according to reports from the Portuguese media on Friday.
Outlet Porto Canal was the first to bring the news, claiming Rúben Dias is on his way to the Premier League side, while Nicolas Otamendi is going the other way.
The news was covered by A Bola, and a few minutes later, newspaper O Jogo came up with their own claims.
They back it up, and add that Manchester City will be paying an extra amount of between €60m and €65m for the Portuguese defender. O Jogo says their story is ‘to be updated’, so we should soon get more news on this deal.
Ruben Dias has been linked to several Premier League sides in the past few years, and recent news from the Portuguese media had been claiming that offers made to the Lisbon side hadn’t been good enough.
In Otamendi’s case, it’s been said he was closer to a return to his former club Porto, so a move to their biggest rivals comes up as a little shock for fans and media.
